Last Day of School!

Friday was a fun day to celebrate all of our accomplishments in Kindergarten!  We took some time to decorate the sidewalk outside of our building with sidewalk chalk.  Here are a few photographs of our work (it was very bright and sunny outside)...

Here is a picture of our Kindergarten group!  I am so proud of these darlings!

And of course we have to have a silly picture!

I was honored to be your child's teacher this year and I can't wait to see all they accomplish in the future!

HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!!

Kindergarten Teachers!

School is now just about over and I have to share this picture with you!

Here I am with my Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. May!  She recently visited to open a time capsule with the current senior class, and I had the opportunity to chat with her.  It was fun to see her and I couldn't resist getting a picture.  Who would have thought when I was in her class, that I would be teaching Kindergarten also!  I hope that when my students are older, I will have the opportunity to see them doing something they truly love!

Personal Narrative Publishing Celebration

We recently finished our writing unit on narrative stories, or stories from our lives.   We continued to focus on telling our stories through our illustrations, but we stretched our story over several pages to create books.  We used "The Story Hand" to be certain our stories included our characters, the setting, three details, and our feelings.  We also studied the work of other authors and illustrators while we walked in their footsteps to help make our writing com alive.  Some of the techniques we studied included the illustrator's point of view and speech bubbles.  Books have already been sent home.  I hope you enjoyed your little author's hard work!

Below are some pictures of students sharing during our Publishing Celebration!

And of course they always want to take a silly picture!!

"Hoppy" Easter!

I know that Easter seems like ages ago, but we created these bunnies hiding in the grass to get us ready to celebrate.  I meant to get them posted because students did such a fabulous job on them.  First, we drew everything with pencil and traced our lines with black crayon.  Then students painted the white bunny and green grass.  After the paint dried, they needed to try to find their lines again to trace over.  This was a little tricky! I love the final product!

Walrus vs. Polar Bear

This week we finished learning about Polar Bears.  We compared and contrasted polar bears and walruses.  Check out our diagram to see what characteristics each have individually and what they have in common.

We made polar bears to display in the hallway.  They are very fluffy!  (Special thank you if you donated cotton balls at the beginning of the year!)

Our walruses are also hanging in the hallway!  I am sure they feel right at home with the Arctic weather we have been having!

More from our 100th Day

I hope you enjoyed checking out the pictures of our more mature students.  Here is a little bit more about our 100th day of school!

We had fun with our 100 things for show and tell.  Students gave clues about their items and it was fun guessing.  We had some very tricky clues.

Next, I told them I had a little gift for them...$100.

Okay, so they were a little bummed when they discovered they could not spend it, but it was a great opportunity to practice our writing skills.

Here is a view at what they wrote...

If I had $100 I would buy...
goldfish.
butter.
a flat screen TV.
Monster High dolls.
ice cream.
a monkey.
a beach ball.

I would like to buy 100...
markers.
beach balls.
ipads.
pieces of candy.
windows.
sisters.
fish.

I would not want 100...
mice.
snakes.
loving girls.
purses.
cats.
brothers.
sisters.
lollipops.
oranges.
bees.

After that, we used our art skills to look into the future and create a self-portrait.

It was funny explaining to them what wrinkles were!

Finally, we counted out 100 Fruit Loops to make necklaces.

It was a fun day of celebrating!

Happy 100th Day!

We are 100 days smarter!  Students were able to dress up like they were 100 years old!  Here are pictures of each kiddo when they arrived at school standing in front of our poster.  I will post more pictures of our 100th day, but needed to get these posted separately.

Don't they look mature?!  Makes me laugh again just looking at them!
*One student was absent in the morning, so I didn't get her picture...sorry!
